Sky Cinema's new releases in May

May brings a host of fantastic films that will be added to Sky Cinema, featuring one of 2024s surprise big blockbusters and a return of one of Hollywood’s best-loved comedy-horror characters.

Cleaner – 2nd May

Star Wars sequels star Daisy Ridley plays Joey Locke, a former soldier turned window cleaner who must be the hero for an evening after extremists hijack an energy gala and capture 300 hostages.

Omni Loop – 3rd May

A quantum physicist with a black hole growing in her chest finds herself trapped in a time loop, and teams up with a gifted student to try and save her life by unraveLling the mysteries of time travel. 

Stars Ayo Edibiri (The Bear) and Mary-Louis Parker (R.I.P.D.).

The Damned – 4th May

A 19th-century widow in an isolated Icelandic fishing village must make a desperate choice between rescuing survivors from a shipwreck or ensuring her community's survival, leading to horrifying consequences.

A brilliant folk horror featuring the Hound from Game of Thrones (Rory McCann) and one of the Shelby brothers from Peaky Blinders (Joe Cole).

Speak No Evil – 9th May

The Daltons’ holiday to Italy leads them to meet and befriend a free-spirited British couple and their son. After returning home, the Daltons receive an invite from their new ‘friends’ to stay at their remote farmhouse in Devon.

What seems like a loving trip to a delightful homestay turns into a nightmare as the welcoming hosts turn out to be not so friendly.

James McAvoy (Victor Frankenstein) seemingly loves a psychological horror and when he’s as good in them as he is, you simply can’t blame the guy for taking the roles.

Mob Cops – 10th May

When a retired NYPD detective publishes a book revealing his family's mob connections, it sparks a violent clash between corrupt officers allied with a ruthless crime boss and those determined to bring them to justice.

Rebellious – 11th May

In this animated adventure, a headstrong princess is kidnapped by an evil sorcerer, prompting her scholarly fiancé to embark on a daring quest to rescue her, while she boldly challenges her captors and plots her own escape.

A fun family movie with a fresh take on a classic fairy-tale dynamic.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice – 16th May

Tim Burton, Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder link up once again in this sequel to 1988s Beetlejuice, with a more-than-fitting title to match.

After a family tragedy, Lydia Deetz and her teenage daughter, Astrid, return to their ancestral home in Winter River, where Astrid inadvertently opens a portal to the afterlife. 

Re-unleashing the mischievous Betelgeuse, Lydia is forced to confront her past and protect her daughter from supernatural threats as she, and the titular ghostly character, embark on a chaotic adventure.

Bookworm – 17th May 

Mildred (Nell Fisher, Evil Dead Rise) finds her life upended when her estranged father, a washed-up American illusionist played by Elijah Wood (Happy Feet Happy Feet 2), arrives in New Zealand to care for her, leading them on a wilderness quest to find the mythical Canterbury Panther and mend their fractured bond.

Poison – 18th May

Estranged ex-spouses Lucas (Tim Roth, Virgin Territory) and Edith (Trine Dyrhom, The Girl with the Needle) reunite at their son's grave a decade after his death, confronting unresolved grief and buried secrets during a single, emotionally charged afternoon.

Not to be mistaken with 2023s Wes Anderson short tale of the same name starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Dev Patel, Ralph Fiennes and Ben Kingsley. 

The Wild Robot – 23rd May

After a shipwreck, ROZZUM Unit 7134—nicknamed Roz—finds herself stranded on an uninhabited island, where she must adapt to the wild environment and form bonds with the local animals to survive. 

As Roz becomes the adoptive mother to an orphaned gosling named Brightbill, she embarks on a journey of self-discovery, challenging her programming and exploring the essence of life and connection.

The Wild Robot ended up as 2024s surprise hit, earning $334.1m at the box office and three Academy Award nominations. The voices of Lupita Nyong'o (Black Panther), Matt Berry (Toast of London) and Pedro Pascal (literally everything these days) lend their talents.

A Different Man – 24th May

Aspiring actor Edward Lemuel (Sebastian Stan, Hot Tub Time Machine) undergoes radical facial reconstructive surgery to escape his disfiguring neurofibromatosis, only to become obsessed with reclaiming his former identity when a stage play based on his life casts someone else in the role .

Escape from the 21st Century – 25th May

Three teenagers in 1999 gain the ability to time-travel 20 years into the future every time they sneeze, only to find their adult lives entangled in crime, corruption, and unexpected consequences. 

To prevent a dystopian future, they embark on a chaotic, genre-blending adventure filled with martial arts, sci-fi twists, and heartfelt moments.

Old Guy – 30th May

Aging hitman Danny Dolinski is pulled back into the field to train a brash Gen Z assassin, but when they uncover a plot to eliminate the old guard, the unlikely duo turns the tables on their double-crossing employer.

Stars Christopher Waltz (The Green Hornet), Lucy Liu (Kung Fu Panda) and Cooper Hoffman (Licorice Pizza).

The Front Room – 31st May

A pregnant anthropology professor's life descends into psychological horror when her domineering, estranged mother-in-law moves in, bringing with her a sinister presence that threatens to unravel the family from within.

These Sky Premiere movies often include some of the year’s biggest releases or major blockbusters from the last couple of years.
