Sky Cinema new releases: What’s on in April
Despicable Me 4 - 4th April

The ever-popular Despicable Me franchise (birthplace of those chaotic, yellow, banana-obsessed Minions) is back with a fourth instalment!
Steve Carell returns as supervillain Gru, this time attempting to deal with the twin threats of nemesis Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell) and his own newborn son, Gru Jr. Should be very popular with the little ones.
Cuckoo - 5th April
Twisty thriller starring Hunter Schafer (Euphoria) and Dan Stevens (The Guest). Teenager Gretchen moves to an isolated German resort with her family, only to uncover a shocking secret.
Best to go into this one without knowing much more than that…
My Penguin Friend - 6th April
Heartwarming family-friendly adventure starring Jean Reno (Leon) and an adorable animal companion.
This is based on the remarkable true story of a Brazilian fisherman who rescued an injured penguin and formed a lifelong friendship. Lovely stuff.
Transformers One - 11th April

The long-running Transformers franchise gets a brand new origin story (and a facelift) in this action-packed animated adventure.
Orion Pax (Chris Hemsworth) and D-16 (Brian Tyree Henry) are lowly miners, digging precious energon from the core of Cybertron and idolising heroic leader Sentinel Prime (Jon Hamm). But all of that changes when they make a chance discovery.
A great little adventure for the whole family, and one that packs a surprisingly emotional punch.
Greedy People - 12th April
A darkly funny crime caper, very much in the vein of a Coen Brothers or Tarantino film.
Himesh Patel (Yesterday) stars as a rookie cop assigned to a small, seaside town, where he quickly becomes embroiled in a mess of money, mistaken identity and murder. Also stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception) and Lily James (Baby Driver).
Touch - 13th April
A touching (no pun intended) romantic drama about a love that spans decades and continents.
Kristófer is a young Icelandic man studying in ‘60s London when he meets Japanese ex-pat Miko. The two bond, but are eventually torn apart by circumstance.
As an older man, during the Covid-19 pandemic, Kristófer, now a widower with failing health, sets out to track down his lost love and tie up loose ends. A beautiful tearjerker.
Smile 2 - 15th April

Sequel to the smash-hit 2022 horror. This time around Naomi Scott takes centre stage, as a pop star who is preparing for a world tour when she runs afoul of a grinning demonic entity.
Scary stuff.
Twisters - 18th April

Belated sequel (sort of) to the beloved ‘90s disaster movie. There’s no Helen Hunt this time around - instead Daisy Edgar-Jones (Where the Crawdads Sing) and Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick) strap themselves in to chase deadly storms.
This has tons of action, adventure and spectacle, plus a banging country soundtrack and beautiful shots of rural Oklahoma. A good, old-fashioned blockbuster.
The Parenting - 19th April
Ahead of their wedding, a young couple brings together their respective parents in a country retreat. Unfortunately, both families are deeply weird and dysfunctional. Oh, and the house is also haunted.
A zany horror comedy starring Brian Cox (Succession) and Lisa Kudrow (Friends).
Trap - 25th April

M Night Shyamalan, the master of suspense (and shocking twists), returns with a tense thriller that asks the age-old question: what if Hannibal Lecter attended a Taylor Swift concert?
A fun, pulpy cat-and-mouse thriller with an excellent comeback turn from Josh Hartnett (The Faculty).
Between the Temples - 26th April
Comedic drama about a grieving cantor who reunites with his grade school music teacher and rediscovers his love of singing.
Stars Jason Schwartzman (Asteroid City) and Carol Kane (The Princess Bride).
A Mistake - 27th April
A veteran surgeon finds her whole career in jeopardy after making a single mistake during an operation.
Stars Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games) and Simon McBurney (Nosferatu).
