Weekly trailer roundup 06/02

The biggest, most exciting new movie and TV trailers this week.

We live in a golden age of entertainment, with great new movies and TV shows being released all the time. There’s so much, in fact, that it can be hard to keep track of what’s coming, and what to get excited about.

With that in mind, we’ve put together a list of the biggest and best trailers released this week. And there’s some good stuff on the horizon, featuring everything from stretchy superheroes to murderous robots and karate kids.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps

In cinemas 25th July

Prepare 4 launch!

In a (somewhat overblown) press event, hosted amongst the real-life Saturn V rockets at the Houston Space Center, Marvel finally unveiled the first trailer for their eagerly anticipated new version of the Fantastic Four.

It’s been a long road for fans, getting to this point. Marvel Studios regained the film rights to the FF - the heroes that basically kicked off the whole modern ‘Marvel Age’ of stories in the comics - when Disney bought Fox way back in 2017.

But, by the looks of things, it was worth the wait.

Taking place in an alternate reality - heavily styled on the retrofuturist designs of the ‘60s - First Steps sees Marvel’s First Family face off against the planet-devouring space god Galactus, and his cosmic herald, the Silver Surfer. The tone here is light, poppy and wonderfully earnest - exactly what the Fantastic Four should be.

Stars Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian), Vanessa Kirby (Mission: Impossible - Fallout), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear), Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things), Ralph Ineson (Nosferatu), Julia Garner (Wolf Man) and, in a blink-and-you’ll-miss him shot, John Malkovich (Being John Malkovich).

As Johnny Storm would say: flame on!

In cinemas July

After a raptor-quick turnaround, we’re about to sink our teeth into yet another Jurassic World film - only three short years after the sequel trilogy wrapped up.

This one, at least, has plenty to get fans excited: it was written by David Koepp, who penned the original Jurassic Park, was directed by Gareth Edwards, who turned in the excellent 2014 Godzilla, and stars Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) and Jonathan Bailey (Wicked).

It also looks to be much more of your classic adventure film, taking its characters to a mysterious, dino-infested island - Isla Sorna, perhaps? - in search of rare genetic material that could help humanity eradicate disease.

Between this, Superman and Fantastic Four, July is shaping up to be a great month for moviegoers.

M3GAN 2.0

In cinemas 27th June

Everyone’s favourite impeccably choreographed, murderous robot pal returns this June in an eagerly-anticipated sequel, from the original creative team of 2023 horror hit M3GAN.

The story this time is absolutely bonkers. When M3GAN’s underlying tech is stolen and turned into a renegade military weapon, the robot doll’s creator (Alison Williams) has no choice but to rebuild the original AI menace and pit the two bots against each other.

Shades of Terminator 2 here, albeit with way more killer fits and viral, TikTok-inspired dancing.

Final Destination: Bloodlines

In cinemas 16th May

2025’s horror hot streak continues with this brand new entry in the long-running fan-favourite franchise.

The basic premise remains the same here - people who have escaped death through some quirk of premonition are picked off, one by one, by Death itself, in a series of outrageously complex, Rube-Goldberg-style accidents. The twist this time seems to be that our cast of victims will all be descended from survivors of the original movies.

Or something.

To be honest, the story matters very little in a Final Destination film. And judging by this gruesome teaser, Bloodlines will be focussing on the stuff fans actually care about - those ridiculous kills.

Sinners

In cinemas 18th April

Fair warning - this trailer gives away a LOT of the plot.

Acclaimed filmmaker Ryan Coogler (CreedBlack Panther) tries his hand at horror in this story of twin brothers - both played by Michael B Jordan (CreedBlack Panther) - facing off against the forces of darkness in the Deep South.

It looks slick, sweaty and full of monster-fighting action, but hopefully they haven’t given away the whole movie in this trailer… Also stars Hailee Steinfeld (Hawkeye), Jack O’Connell (Back to Black) and Wunmi Mosaku (Loki).

Hurry Up Tomorrow

In cinemas 16th May

A strange, surreal, psychological thriller about a musician - played by Abel Tesfaye, aka The Weeknd - who is mentally unravelled by a mysterious stranger.

It all looks a bit weird and esoteric, but is sure to be interesting, particularly given the talent behind the camera and the starry young cast involved, including Jenna Ortega (Wednesday) and Barry Keoghan (Saltburn).

Locked

In cinemas 21st March

A high-concept, low-budget thriller from producer Sam Raimi (Evil Dead), starring Bill Skarsgård (Nosferatu) and, of all people, Sir Anthony Hopkins (The Silence of the Lambs).

Skarsgård plays a down-on-his-luck thief who decides to steal the wrong car. As soon as he’s in the driver’s seat, the doors lock and her finds himself trapped, at the mercy of a mysterious man (Hopkins) who has full control of the vehicle.

Looks daft but fun.

Riff Raff

In cinemas 28th February

A darkly comic crime thriller with a knock-out cast, including Bill Murray (Ghostbusters), Ed Harris (Westworld), Jennifer Coolidge (The White Lotus), Gabrielle Union (Bad Boys 2), Pete Davidson (The King of Staten Island) and Lewis Pullman (Top Gun: Maverick).

A family’s plans for a quiet New Years are torn up when their past comes back to haunt them, in the form of a pair of idiosyncratic gangsters.
