What is Sky Glass Gen 2? | Our comprehensive guide
Want to know more about Sky Glass Gen 2? Look no further.

Sky’s smart TV just got smarter. The new Sky Glass Gen 2 is here, making some exciting improvements on Sky’s game-changing fully integrated device.
With the next generation of Sky Glass now available, here’s everything you need to know.
What is Sky Glass Gen 2?
Sky Glass Gen 2 is the next generation of Sky’s popular smart TV which, like its predecessor, comes with Sky built into the TV itself. This completely eliminates the need for a satellite dish or set-top box, meaning you can enjoy all the same live and on-demand Sky content alongside any streaming services you use, all in one device.
Glass Gen 2 is an all-around improvement on the original Glass, offering the ultimate Sky viewing experience with improved picture quality, speakers and a sleeker design.
How does Sky Glass Gen 2 work?
Sky Glass Gen 2 works just like any other smart TV, offering all the bells and whistles that users have come to expect in their viewing experience - including Ultra HD 4K picture, HDR calibration and an intuitive, easy-to-use interface for streaming content.
The main difference is that all of your Sky subscriptions will be accessible directly from the TV itself, with no need for a set-top box or satellite dish. All you need is a wi-fi connection and a place to put your new TV.
Users will be able to choose from three different sizes: 43-inch, 55-inch and 65-inch, meaning you’ll be able to use Sky Glass Gen 2 no matter how much space you have to play with.
Plus, as with any other smart TV, you’ll be able to connect your other devices - such as games consoles or blu-ray players - via HDMI, USB-C and the new USB-A port, which supports charging and CI+. They’ll even be accessible through the user interface or via voice activation, meaning you won’t have to remember which ports they’re plugged into.
New customers will need to sign up to a Sky TV subscription on top of the Sky Glass Gen 2 cost, whereas existing Sky customers will be able to roll their current subscription into their Sky Glass deal.
What’s new in Sky Glass Gen 2?
The next generation of Sky Glass is all about improving on the overall experience. The Glass Gen 2 boasts enhanced picture and sound, with a sleek new look and updated OS - all of which is designed to provide the ultimate Sky viewing experience.
The improved 4K UltraHD screen offers a more immersive picture, thanks to local dimming zones, a wider viewing angle and advanced HDR support. Put simply, the darks are darker and the brights are brighter, giving a more accurate, crystal clear display.
In terms of sound, the integrated Dolby Atmos soundbar has been redesigned from the original Glass. It now incorporates an additional subwoofer - for a total of seven speakers - to provide richer bass, higher sound output and, importantly, improved vocal clarity.
How much is Sky Glass Gen 2 per month?
Sky has ensured that the price point of the Sky Glass Gen 2 is accessible for everyone. While the as-is prices are very competitive on their own, Sky also allows customers to pay for the TV as part of their monthly deal, just like you would with your phone.
The three different sizes are available to buy outright, or on 24- or 48-month contracts, priced as follows:
Size | Outright Cost | Monthly Cost (24 Months)* | Monthly Cost (48 Months)* |
43-inch | £699 | £28 | £14 |
55-inch | £949 | £38 | £19 |
65-inch | £1199 | £48 | £24 |
*Subject to status and individual circumstance. £20 upfront payment required. Additional subscriptions are charged separately to the Sky Glass credit agreement.
These prices are for the Sky Glass Gen 2 unit only, and if choosing to pay monthly, the listed cost will be added to your bill along with your Sky TV subscription. There is also an additional upfront payment of £20 with every 24- or 48-month Sky Glass Gen 2 contract - a one-off fee to cover administrative and setup costs.
How is Sky Glass Gen 2 installed?
With their new generation of Glass smart TVs, Sky have moved away from the need to book an installation. Your new Sky Glass Gen 2 will be delivered directly to you for free, and is designed to be easier than ever to get up and running.
The Glass Gen 2 comes packaged with a newly-designed stand which has two prongs that the TV slides onto, removing any need for screws or tools. Alternatively, users can choose to add the new bespoke wall mount to their purchase, which can tilt, swivel or sit completely flush against the wall.
And for those who already have their own mounting system in place, the Sky Glass Gen 2 is fully compatible with universal TV mounts.
Of course, if you really don’t want the hassle of installing yourself, Sky offers a Premium Delivery option for an additional cost. With Premium Delivery, a Sky engineer will place the Sky Glass unit in a room of your choice, unbox, assemble and even tidy up afterwards.
Can you record on Sky Glass Gen 2?
You can’t record live TV programmes with Sky Glass Gen 2, the way you would with something like Sky Q. Instead, Glass works just like Sky Stream - add your favourite show, movie or match to your Playlist and it will be available to stream on demand.
Not only does this mean you’ll never have to worry about accidentally deleting your recordings, but you’ll never have to worry about running out of storage either. If you're concerned about adverts ruining the experience, ad-skip is available with a lot of the current Sky Glass deals.
What channels are on Sky Glass Gen 2?
With Sky Glass Gen 2, you don’t need a box of any kind - all your Sky content is streamed straight from within the TV itself. So the channels you have on Sky Glass Gen 2 are completely dependent on your current Sky subscription.
You’ll be able to watch all the channels you pay for directly from the television - so if you pay for Sky Ultimate TV, Sky Cinema and Sky Sports, all of the channels included in those packages will be available for you on Sky Glass.
Can I use Sky Whole Home with Sky Glass Gen 2?
Sky Glass Gen 2 is fully compatible with Sky Whole Home. Want to watch a movie on Sky Cinema while curled up in bed? Or catch the big game on Sky Sports while making dinner? Sky Whole Home extends your Sky subscriptions to any room.
To take advantage of this service you’ll need to add the Whole Home monthly subscription to your existing Sky package, and one or more Sky Stream Pucks or extra Sky Glass TVs. Pucks connect directly to any TV, tablet or phone, instantly making your Sky content available on that device.
With Whole Home you can watch on up to six Sky Stream Pucks, or up to three Sky Glass TVs at the same time. Already have the original Sky Glass? Why not switch up to Gen 2 and move the older model into another room?
What do I need to have Sky Glass Gen 2?
All you need for Sky Glass Gen 2 is a stable internet connection - Sky recommends at least 10Mbps for HD viewing and 25Mbps for UHD - and a Sky subscription.
Whether you’re a new subscriber or have been watching Sky for years, adding Sky Glass to your package remains the same. Either pay for the TV outright or add the cost to your monthly subscription.
What Sky Glass Gen 2 colours are available?
Sky Glass comes in a range of attractive colours. You have the choice of Volcanic Grey, Arctic Silver or Atlantic Blue.
What extra features does Sky Glass Gen 2 have?
Just like the original, Sky Glass Gen 2 is packed with state-of-the-art features that make browsing and watching your entertainment easier than ever.
The updated SkyOS offers a slick, intuitive user experience, bringing your Sky subscriptions, streaming services and games consoles together in one place. You can even create a playlist of your favourite content from across your subscriptions.
Want to go straight from an episode of Stranger Things on Netflix, to the latest House of the Dragon on Sky Atlantic? It’s easy with SkyOS.
The Glass Gen 2’s voice control function makes it even easier to get around, too. Just wake up the TV by saying “Hello Sky” - from anywhere in the room - and tell it what you want. Try searching for a show or switching from Netflix to your Xbox, all without lifting a finger.
